Subject: Angle Parking - Increased Accident Risks? Date: 5/16/2017 2:11:17 PM
I am the President of the Chamber of Commerce of a small town (population 10,000) in Western Canada. Our Town Administration proposes to remove our present angle parking on our main street and replace it with parallel parking. This will result in a decrease of 25% in available parkng and will result in parking demand exceeding parking availability. The stated justification is that angle parking presents an unacceptable increased risk of accidents -mostly vehicular accidents occurring when a car is 'backing out' of its parking spot. Is there any information readily available (on the Net or elsewhere) which addresses the safety issues related to angle parking (70 degrees) as opposed to parallel parking or which a reader could forward to me? Can anybody suggest any factors that we should raise or be aware of in order to be anle to intelligently discuss this matter? Any suggestions for info would be gretaly appreciated and could be forwarded to Fercholaw@hotmail.com
