Going for Gold
Bulwark Parking, the local Pietermaritzburg-based company, was recently awarded the contract to supply the parking system for Gold Reef City Casino. Akani Gold won the bid for a casino licence in Gauteng, and have opened Gold Reef Casino, an R850 million development project located adjacent to the M1 South in Johannesburg.
To provide an efficient parking service to the casino’s 3,300 parking bay area, Bulwark Parking installed its PayPoint pay-on-entry parking system. This system entitles visitors to pay a flat rate for their parking, irrespective of the time spent in the parking lot. On entry, a magnetic stripe ticket is issued, encoded with time, date and location. To verify on exit, the parker inserts the ticket into the automatic exit reader to open the boom gate.
Gold Reef Casino required complete flexibility in terms of tariffs and the necessary interface with existing casino systems. This includes the option to link free casino chips to the customer’s parking tickets.
The parking system includes 11 entry stations, seven exit stations and a fully computerised on-line network with MetroPark software to the central management station. Bulwark’s equipment handles approximately 120,000 vehicles per month. In addition to the conventional parking service for casual parkers (visitors), staff and tenant (concessionaires), Bulwark’s parking system also handles the Valet and V.I.P. parking.
