Product: Controlled Traffic Speed Bump
Function: To prevent Roadway Vehicular and Pedestrian Accidents.
Especially suited for proximities such as to, Children Play Areas, School Crossing Zones, Residential Areas, Elderly Residential Complexes, and the approaches to Rail Road Grade/Level Crossings, this speed bump is primarily activated by the detected speeds of approaching vehicles. Design options are available for manual and timed activation of the device. The units are adaptable to manually hand cranking and locking operations.
"Sleeping Policeman"
[Non-Impeding]
Vehicles approaching the speed bump location at measured speeds within the posted speed limit, experience no effect on negotiating the installed unit. In effect a smooth traverse of the location will be made when device is in the inactive, non-impeding, "Sleeping Policeman" mode.
"Awakened Policeman"
[Impeding]
Whenever vehicles approach the installation with measured speeds in excess of the posted speed limit, and from a predetermined distance, the device automatically reconfigures to form an active, non-destructive speed bump. This active position is referred to as the "Awakened Policeman" mode
Presentation: A Motorized Retractable Speed Bump (sleeping policeman), or warning device wherein the raising and lowering of the retractile is controlled by multiple remote means from signals generated from traffic conditions. The motorized retractable speed bump, wherein a retractile consisting of bi-folding hinged plates, which are elevated to present a visible obstruction to motor vehicles, and a position restraining device, operated by linear and/or rotary motor drive means, by on/off manual push button switching, or through a series of Programmable Logic Controllers, by way of analog or digital signals emanating from permanently installed or vehicular mounted speed detecting and control devices. The basic unit provides for a manually hand cranking and locking operations.
Fields of application: Motor vehicle accident prevention on roadways, highway construction work zones, railroad crossings, parking lots and parking garages. A dynamic means of warning motorists who are traveling in excess of the existing speed limits. A means of whereby authorized vehicles such as commercial passenger buses, school buses and emergency vehicles, unobstructed passage over an otherwise active speed bump by incorporation of remote switching devices within these vehicles. To assist law enforcement, by providing a police with the means of activating and deactivating the speed bump from within the vehicles.
Purposes: To provide a means of traffic calming at desired times and specific locations.
To prevent injury or death to pedestrians, damage to vehicles, vehicle occupants and other property.
To reduce damage, to emergency vehicles such as, fire trucks, ambulances, police cars and motorcycles, often sustained from permanently placed speed bumps on the roadways traversed while such vehicles travel at high speeds during emergency runs.
To reduce the "response" times to emergencies conditions occurring within areas where permanently active speed bumps may otherwise be installed.
To reduce the emission of un-combusted gasses due to sudden vehicle deceleration and acceleration before and after negotiating the permanently installed speed bumps.
To provide additional warning to motorists of their impending approach to control or multi-speed limit zones, school crossing zones, playgrounds, hospitals, railroad level crossings, "T" intersections, roundabouts, parking lots, parking garages, dead-ending streets, piers, docks and other locations of possible vehicular and pedestrian danger.
Features: This device contains a variety of standard and optional features to give the purchaser the choice of equipment and controls that best suits their application needs and conditions. Such features include but are not limited to, proactive drainage, street sweeping, snow plowing, heat tracing, and remote location operability.
Our controlled traffic speed bump shall be custom designed for each application. TCIS is prepared to engineer each unit to the requirements of the client from within the contents of our design specifications. Further, we will assist you in the selection and supply of items such as, speed detecting systems, control devices, actuators, adjacent warning lights, in-unit night lighting, visual and audible alarms, power supply and others features.
