Parking Industry Forum held November 27, 2001 in San Jose, California

After a welcome by Stan Wolfson of Expo1000.com and introductions of the vendors, airport, municipal, and private parking operators in attendance, he invited each attendee give a brief presentation to the group.

Jim Trotter, Parking Director - City of San Jose, our fabulous keynote speaker welcomed us to San Jose and told about parking in the Central Business District.  He talked about the recent past and the city’s future plans.  Jim also answered a few questions regarding the expansion of the convention center, pedestrian mall, and parking meter plans.

Gerald Mc Eneaney of Magnetic Automation Corp. gave a presentation on his company’s gates and access systems.  He noted that his gate operators, unlike many others, open and close using a direct drive motor giving superior performance and safety.

Glen Edwards of Walker Parking Associates explained his company’s long history and international reputation in parking consulting, design, and restoration services.  Glen also answered some questions regarding new projects and 9/11 impact.

Steve Yacht of Dorado Products gave a presentation outlining his company’s recent history and their evolution from the Stanley Tool Works (yes, the same company that makes the hammers and screwdrivers).  Steve described Dorado’s latest products including gate operators and access control and answered questions regarding the companies large access control system at Denver International Airport.

Jim Tedesco the Western States Security Manager for Avis Rent a Car explained some solutions he has implemented to control the information on the movement of vehicles into and out of parking and storage facilities.  Since 9/11 thousands of vehicles have moved from their owning areas and are now located in other areas.  Jim discussed these out of area movement problems and some solutions. 

Raffi Ghazarian of Abloy Security talked about Abloy’s high security lock systems and the use of these devices in revenue control in our industry.  He talked about some money control solutions they are providing the gaming industry.

Thomas Tweedie of Harding Steel, Inc. gave an interesting presentation on parking lifts (they are not to be called “elevators”) and a portable deck system that can be purchased or leased.  This portable deck can be set up as a temporary parking solution during construction or special need then later removed.

Georgia Williams of Klaus Parking Systems USA, Inc. gave a presentation on her company’s mechanical parking lift systems.  This German company builds a complete line of parking lift structures including high rise systems, automatic pallet, and turntable systems.

Harris Tessler of Clancy Systems International, Inc. gave a presentation on Clancy’s unique Internet based parking solutions including Remit-Online.com and Permit-Sales.com and how these solutions integrate with Clancy’s traditional parking enforcement and ticket management systems. Remit-Online.com allows violators to lookup and pay tickets online and Permit-Sales.com handles the sales and distribution of monthly, semester and annual parking permits on-line.

Wayne Marfleet of Digital Pioneer presented his company’s line of Pay & Display units and discussed their Widows based solutions.  The ability of the “Intella-Pay” machine to accept credit cards as well as bills and coins gives everyone in the parking business new revenue options as well maximizing parking availability and revenue.

John Lewis of Watry Design Group talked about this company’s vast experience in parking structure design.  John talked about some of his company’s newest parking projects.

Cindy Ness of Turbo Data introduced her associate Elias Khoury and talked about her company’s business of parking ticket management.  Turbo Data’s clients enjoy the ability to manage their parking tickets while the company takes care of all the difficult day to day operations, including customer service,  interfacing with all 50 state’s DMVs, generating and mailing the notices, handling payments and maintaining records.

Dexter Vizinau’s company DeViz Enterprizes represents Signal-Park, National Sign, & Tele Parking Solutions.  Dexter explained today’s newest technology in parking guidance systems – alerting and guiding the motorist to an open parking space. He also talked about TPSs new in-vehicle parking meter and it’s ability to charge the parker for only the time used while increasing control and revenues for the municipality.

Patrick Goode of Perceptics, Inc. announced his company’s entry into the parking arena. Perceptics has been providing a License Plate Recognition system for many governmental agencies including police, border crossing control, and other high security applications.  They are now introducing PC and off-the-shelf equipment systems for the parking industry.

Joe Hutka and Jack Sykes of Tremco and Euclid Chemical talked about sealants and waterproofing for parking structures and decks.  Their products include all kinds of chemicals and products to keep your facilities in the best condition as well as help recondition aging structures

Kay Beecham and the staff of KSB Services were unable to attend in person as they were busy with the golf tournament at the California Public Parking Association conference in Monterey but provided brochures and a door prize won by Stacey Lu of the City of San Jose.
