I am sorry you had your vehicle towed and felt that it was unfair. This happens occasionally. In most States you have the right to have a Hearing to determine the Probable Cause to tow the vehicle. Ask about that at your local enforcement agency. You blame the tow drivers in error. They respond when requested by Police or Parking Enforcement Officers. It is these Officers who have the authority and make the determination to tow the vehicles.
If anyone attending a Parking Conference (expo) parked illegally/in a towaway situation they would deserve to be towed just like anyone else.
